Four Rivers from Base of a Tree:
The Bible says that a river named Nahar went out of Eden and parted into four rivers (Bible, Genesis 2:10). We find exactly such as situation at Pushkar. Here 4 rivers named Sagarmati, Saraswati, Nahar and Dai emerge from the base…. of the mountain and flow in four directions as shown at Picture 1. It is also remarkable that one of these four rivers is named “Nahar”—the name of the one river that parted into four given in the Bible. The minor difference is that Bible gives the name Nahar to the one river that parts into four, while the living tradition gives the same name to one of the four rivers.
The Hindu tradition also says that 4 rivers emerge from Mount Meru where Brahma undertook creation.
The Beginning of Marriage:
The popular rendering of the Bible says that God took one of Adam’s ribs, He made a woman of that rib and brought her unto the man (Bible, Genesis 2:21-22). The statement that God brought the woman unto the man is understood by scholars as the establishment of the relationship between one man and one woman, or the beginning of the institution of marriage. The Hindu tradition says that Swayambhu Manu gave his daughter Davahuti in marriage to Sage Kardama. This is the earliest reference to marriage in the Hindu texts as per our knowledge and indicates the beginning of marriage at the time of Swayambhu Manu.
Adam ate of the Holy Basil:
God had prohibited Adam from eating of a particular plant in the Garden of Eden. Adam ate from the three nevertheless. Adam’s line spread across the earth despite this transgression. This indicates that eating of the three was somehow beneficial rather than harmful. We do not now know the secret of God prohibiting Adam from eating of the plant. Such a plant is found India in the holy basil (Picture 2). The leaves of this plant are eaten and they have mind-invigorating properties.
It is possible that God prohibited Adam from eating of the holy basil just as a mother sometimes gives a suggestion to the child exactly opposite of what she may want him or her to do. For example, if the mother wants the child to eat a particular fruit, she may say “do not eat of that fruit.” She may know that the child may eat the fruit if prohibited from eating it. Adam ate the holy basil, his mind was invigorated and that led to the expansion of the mankind as desired by God. The holy basil is much honoured in India and this provides the third connection between Adam and India.
Living Tradition of creation in India:
The living tradition in India tells that Lord Brahma undertook creation at Pushkar. Picture of his temple is given at Picture 3. His son was Swayambhu Manu. Thus Swayambhu Manu may have lived at Pushkar too.
Conclusion:
We suggest Adam was the same person as Swayambhu Manu and he lived in India because 4 rivers emerge from Pushkar as told in the Bible, because the Hindu tradition tells of the beginning of marriage at his time as also indicated in the Bible, because Adam partook of holy basil that is worshipped in India and because living tradition tells of Brahma, father of Swayambhu Manu, living at Pushkar.
