Historicity of the Garden of Eden

My study suggests that the origin of the Biblical and Quranic religions lies in the Indus Valley and that Moses led the Exodus from there, rather than from Egypt. There is no archaeological evidence of the Hebrews in Egypt around 1446 BCE, the time traditionally associated with the Exodus. In contrast, the Indus Valley Civilization collapsed around 1500 BCE, which led to its people spreading in all directions. Some of these people went to West Asia and they became the Jews.
Moses carried the memories of Adam, Noah, and Abraham from the Indus Valley and that these figures originally lived there.
The Mausala Parva of the Mahabharata mentions that Krishna left for an unknown country after the Yadavas killed each other. This unknown country was Israel, implying that Krishna is Moses and that this individual led the Exodus from the Indus Valley to Israel.

Challenges of Living Traditions in Identifying Prophets or Avatars

Posted on January 26, 2024August 26, 2024 By Bharat Jhunjhunwala No Comments on Challenges of Living Traditions in Identifying Prophets or Avatars
There are number of places where the Garden of Eden is supposed to have been located. These are located at as varied places as Lake Victoria in Africa in Iraq at confluence of Tigris. Euphrates at Lake Van in turkey in Bahrain or in the Pamir Mountains. So people at all these places believe that the Garden of Eden was located there.

Similarly there is a debate regarding the place of Prophet Abraham. The Islamic tradition believes that he travelled from Babylon to Mecca; while the Biblical tradition believes that he travelled from Babylon to Canaan or the ancient Israel.

There is similar problem about the location of ancient places in the Hindu tradition. Lord Rama had excelled his wife Sita towards the end of his life. Thereafter Sita lived at a Valmiki Ashram according to the Valmiki Ramayans. Now the Question is where was that Valmiki Ramanyan located? There are at-least six places where Sita had spent her period of exile according to the living traditions.

The first such place is RamTeerath in Amritsar. There is a temple which we can see in the picture below.

The second place is Mundri in District Kaithal in Haryana. There is a temple in which idols of Sita, Luv and Kush are placed but there is no idol of Lord Rama because Sita had given birth to Luv and Kush in exile and Rams had not been with them when they were born.

The third place is the Sita Mata Sanctuary in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. There is the beautiful place here with the confluence of a warm water river and cold water river located nearby.

The local forest officials believe that Lakshman has left Sita here during the exile.

The fourth place is Kelwara in District Baran, Rajasthan. This is a temple known as Sitabari where it is believed that Sita spent her period of exile.

A picture of the temple is given below.

Next place is Sita Samahit Sthal near Prayagraj. It is believed that Sita had gone underground here and she lived in the Valmiki Ashram nearby after being exiled.

The last such place is at Balani in Bagpat District of Uttar Pradesh. Here also it is believed that Sita had spent her period of exile.

The point is that there is a tendency for the people to attribute to themselves a glorious past and out of this tendency we find that number of people claim that they are the inheritors of the place where these great people had lived. In order to decide the location of the true place where Sita had lived after her exile, we have to look the archeological, geological, etymological and other evidences in order to arrive a decision.

The same method applies to locating the place of a Prophet like Adam’s Garden of Eden or Abraham’s Ur. We cannot rely only on faith and living traditions. We have to look at various evidences and then only we can reach a decision.
