First Reason
Terah, father of Abraham, was living at Ur of the Chaldeans. He decided to migrate to Canaan. He left Ur and stopped en-route at Haran. He died here and Abraham continued the journey from Haran to Canaan…. We may expect Ur, Haran and Canaan to be located in one line because Terah had left Ur to go to Canaan. Therefore Haran would be located on the way from Ur to Canaan.
The alleged locations of Ur, Haran and Canaan in West Asia are not located in one line. Ur is located in South Iraq, Haran is located far north in Turkey and Canaan is located in Yisrael. There was no reason for Terah to travel 1000 miles to the north when his destination was at Canaan lying to the west.
Second Reason :
Abraham was living in the Land of Canaan before the Exodus took place. Here God said to him, “To your descendants I give this land, from ‘river’ to ‘river’ (Bible, Genesis 15:18).”
The borders of the Promised Land are told differently after the Hebrews reached Yisrael. The Promised Land now had the Great Sea on the north, Jordan River on the east, waters of the Great Sea on the south and the Great Sea on the West (Bible, Ezekiel 47:15-20). These borders are shown in Picture 2.
The Promised Land before- and after the Exodus are quite different. The borders of the Promised Land are marked by two rivers in the original home of the Hebrews and by three seas after they entered Yisrael. This indicates that these refer to two altogether different areas. Thus, author of the JPS Biblical Commentary, Sarna, says that the Genesis’ descriptions “cannot be reconciled with any historic reality of the past” (Page 117). This transformation indicates that the Hebrews lived at some place other than West Asia before they migrated to Yisrael.
Third Reason :
The Bible says that Jacob crossed the Jordan River as he fled from Haran to Gilead. Haran is conventionally located in Turkey as said above and Gilead is located east of the Jordan River as shown in Picture 3. Both these places are located east of the Jordan River. There was no reason for Jacob to cross this Jordan River as he fled from Haran to Gilead.
